What this scientific calculator does

  • Functions: sin, cos and tan (degrees or radians), square root, square, cube, x to the power y, natural log (ln), log base 10, factorial, reciprocal (1/x) and ex.
  • Memory: store, recall, clear, add to and subtract from memory.
  • History: a list of recent calculations that you can click to reuse a result.
  • Keyboard: after clicking the calculator, you can type digits, + − * /, Enter or =, Backspace and Escape.

How it behaves

  • Calculations follow the standard order of operations, so 2 + 3 × 4 gives 14.
  • Results are rounded to 12 significant digits to hide tiny floating-point errors, so 0.1 + 0.2 shows 0.3 and sin(180°) shows 0.
  • Factorials work for whole numbers from 0 to 170. ln and log need a positive number, square root needs a number that is not negative, and dividing by zero shows Error.
  • A number entered with a minus sign is used as that number, so (−2) ^ 2 gives 4.

Worked examples: sin(30°) = 0.5, 5! = 120, √144 = 12, log(100) = 2, and 2 + 3 ^ 2 = 11.

Things to keep in mind

Check that the degree or radian mode matches your problem before using trigonometric functions. Your calculations are processed in your browser and are not sent to this website. Like all calculators that use standard floating-point numbers, very large or very precise results are approximate.

Frequently asked questions

How do I switch between degrees and radians?
Use the DEG and RAD buttons. The current mode is shown on the screen.

Why does the keyboard not respond?
Click anywhere on the calculator first. Key presses are only used while the calculator has focus, so typing elsewhere on the page is not affected.
